In April 2024, Drifting Curriculum launched Drifting Curriculum Books and co-published the E-Book Sojung Jun : The One Work with TheFloorPlan as the result of ARKO 2022-2023 Artist Research-Study-Critique.

This research program aims to illuminate Korean contemporary art by offering professional research and criticism on an artist destined to become a master in the Korean art scene.

Sojung Jun(b. 1982) delves into the realms of ‘the other’ and ‘the sense,’ interpreting personal and societal conditions associated with separation, migration, nomadism, and exile through sensuous interpretations. Since gaining attention with the Daily Experts series in 2010, Jun has created non-linear temporal and spatial experiences that offer fresh perceptions of the present. Exploring various mediums including video, installation, sculpture, sound, performance, and publication, Jun has challenged conventional criticism by incorporating it into her artistic practice, forging a unique alliance with critics to question the very nature of criticism itself.

Sojung Jun : The One Work emerges from ARKO’s 2022-2023 Artist Research-Study-Critique, serving as a temporary sanctuary within the vast landscape of Jun’s artistic endeavors. Navigating contemporary time and space, the research team traces Jun’s artistic journey, examining how her works intertwine narratives of humanity and history. Against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic, researchers Jung-yeon Ma and Sung Eun Kim provide profound critiques based on video and anthropology, exploring the intersection of physical and digital realms in the year 2021.

Building upon a decade-long collaboration with critics, this publication includes critical essays on Jun’s seminal works before 2021 by Nam-see Kim, Soyeon Ahn, and Hojeong Hur. Spearheaded by Juhyun Cho and Soojung Yi, alongside principal researchers Sung Eun Kim and Jung-yeon Ma, this project aspires to establish a new critical methodology for future endeavors. Contributions from overseas external contributors Martin Germann and Jeanette Bisschops enrich the socio-political context of Jun’s work, offering insightful interviews and essays.

2024년 4월 드리프팅 커리큘럼은 드리프팅 커리큘럼 북스를 런칭해 더플로어플랜과 공동으로 E-Book 『전소정 : The One Work』 을 출간했습니다.

『전소정 : The One Work』는 문화체육관광부와 한국문화예술위원회의 후원으로 2022년 5월부터 2024년 1월까지 진행해 온 <작가 조사-연구-비평>의 결과물로 출간된 연구 비평집입니다. 전소정(b. 1982)은 ‘타자’, ‘감각’의 영역을 작업의 중심축으로 두고, 이산, 이주, 유목, 망명에 결부된 개인적, 사회적 삶의 조건들을 감각적 번역을 통해 인식하고 재위치시키는 작업을 합니다. 2010년 <일상의 전문가> 시리즈 이후 본격적으로 미술계의 주목을 받아 온 작가는 영상, 설치, 조각, 사운드, 퍼포먼스, 출판을 비롯한 다양한 매체에 기반해 특정 인물들의 삶을 쫓아가며 현재에 대한 새로운 인식을 환기시키는 비선형적 시공간을 창조하는데 몰두해왔습니다.

본 출판물은 그 어느 곳에도 영원히 정박할 수 없는 망망대해로 독자-관객들을 이끌며 쉽게 해명되지 않는 작품들과 비평의 생산에 집중되었던 전소정의 예술 세계에 잠시 거처할 임시 천막을 세우는 작업으로, 한 명의 연구자가 하나의 작품을 중심으로 본연의 작품 연구에 몰두해 학술적 의미를 지니는 에세이를 생산했습니다. 공동책임연구자인 조주현, 이수정은 최근 100년 동안 근대 인류사의 가장 큰 전환점이 된 순간, 코로나 팬데믹의 한복판에 작가가 서 있던 그 지점에서 연구를 제안하였고, 주 연구자로 참여한 마정연과 김성은은 각각 영상 미디어와 인류학적 기반의 심도 있는 미술 비평을 통해 물리적, 신체적 이동의 제한, 실제 공간과 온라인 공간의 교차가 가속화되었던 ‘2021년’이라는 구체적 시공간에서 제작된 두 개의 작품 <기계 속의 유령>(2021)과 <그린 스크린>(2021)을 중심으로 한 연구를 진행했습니다.

이 밖에도 해외 필자 자넷 비숍(Jeanette Bisschops), 마틴 게르만(Martin Germann)의 인터뷰와 에세이, 김남시, 안소연, 허호정의 글을 재수록하여 주요 작품들을 소개한 본 출판물은 전소정 작업의 비평적 지도 그리기에 주요한 길잡이가 될 것입니다.
